upcoming events NOVEMBER   MEETING Sat. November 14,1998 3:30 P.M--MEET in front of the GCC Student Union to carpool to Flagstaff for a Russian dinner with entertainment at the Federated Church of Flagstaff with the NAU Russian Club. Cost $13.50 for students, ($8.00 for dinner and $5.50 for the van.) $18 for non students and $32 for couples. Non-students will carpool, students may ride in the vans. RSVP to Polina or Andy by November 7th. Return time about 11p.m. DECEMBER  MEETING Sat. December 5,1998 7 PM--GCC--GUEST SPEAKER: Dr. Stephen K. Batalden, history professor at ASU and coordinator of REESC. Also, Andy will present on Matrushkas and Samovars and there will be a short presentation on Pycckue Mecta A RUSSIAN CHRISTMAS PARTY is in the works for January. It will be at our the home or our new advisor, Mr. David Rodriguez. Watch for more information!

THE CULTURE CORNER & Russian Cuisine      The Culture Corner and Russian Cuisine columns have lost their authors due to their heavy schedules. Anyone interested in contributing to the newsletter please notify Polina FROM THE PRESIDENT      Dorogie Club Members!      What a busy month, full of changes and adjustments and just plain hard work! This seems to be the point in the semester where work begins to pile up and you start to pray for a snow day…in Phoenix!

Our last club meeting went very well with at least 14 new people. The presentation on the Mineral Water Region of Russia by Tanya Vakhlakov was very interesting as was Andy's Matrushka   presentation. Thanks to Dr. Story for providing translation for the presentations.      The Readfest festival was a huge success because of the many volunteers. We had about 3000 children in attendance. That equated to many bags of popcorn and cotton candy being filled!
