Author Rick Furmanek will be the featured speaker at the Glendale
Public Library's "Meet the Author" event at 7 p.m. on Monday evening,
November 30. His new book "Stranded in Moscow," a 288-page, true
account of his family's experience in the new Russia, continues to
receive national and international attention.
A native Oklahoman, Furmanek, his wife and their two children, spent a year in Russia while Rick worked as a consultant for his brother-in-law, Paul Tatum. Tatum, a founding partner of a lucrative hotel and business center in Moscow was gunned down not 50 yards from his business on November 3, 1996. He had spent 18 months prior to the murder, fending off numerous death threats and hostile attempts to take over his multi-million dollar joint venture. Furmanek's book was completed and ready to go to press at the time of Tatum's murder. The book was pulled and an epilogue describing the last few hours of Tatum's life befor the murder was added. Charged with incredible accounts of risk and adventure, crime and education, superstition and religion, "Stranded in Moscow" promises to offer a fresh perspective on the new Russia. Readers are introduced to educators, mafia bosses, secretaries, drivers, professionals, clerks, refugees, the young, the old, the affluent and the lonely, all living in the sphere of the unfathomable and the despair that so often portray life in Moscow. Rick's appearance is part of the "Meet the Author" series at the Glendale Public Library. For more information, call Anne at 930-3573 at the library. |
