Balalaikas in the DesertTucson Concerts February 7-8The ARIZONA BALALAIKA ORCHESTRA announces their 29th annual concerts, “BALALAIKAS IN THE DESERT" to be held Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pima Community College Center for the Arts, Proscenium Theater, 2202 W. Anklam Road, Tucson, Arizona.The concerts will feature the 30-member Orchestra playing Russia and Carpathian folk music. The Orchestra, under the direction of Russian-trained Alexander Tentser, will be joined by the SONS OF ORPHEUS MALE CHOIR OF TUCSON, directed by Grayson Hirst, and the RUSYNŶ DANCERS. Special guests will be the Ukrainian-trained virtuoso IRYNA ORLOVA, performing on the domra, and VADIM KHAVRUN, playing the bayan accordion.
