A Safety Plan for You

What you need to know:

IMPORTANT:

DO NOT TELL the abuser and/or any of his friends, or acquaintances, about  the Safety Plan, what money or documents you have, and
DO NOT TELL ANYONE what you are planning to do.

SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE SAFETY PLAN:

I. 
When the Abuser is There:

  • Stay out of the rooms with no exit.
  • Avoid rooms that may have Weapons in them.
  • Leave your suitcase and CHECKLIST ITEMS (what you need) with the friend whom the abuser DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT.

II. 
Checklist Items (What You Need)

A. 
Identification:     

  1. All of your Passport(s), Work Permit, Green Card, Visa,  I-94's forms, ...
  2. Driver's License(s), ID cards, ...
  3. Birth Certificates, yours and all of your children's'.
  4. Social Security Cards.
  5. Medical Insurance Cards.
  6. Marriage License.
  7. Marriage Certificate(s).
  8. Copy of Passport or Certificate of Naturalization of your abuser or husband, his Social Security Number.
  9. Pictures of your family.
B.  Money:      

  1. Money and/or Credit Cards.
  2. ATM Cards.
  3. Check Books for Checking Accounts.
  4. Savings Books / Pass Books for Savings-Deposit  Accounts.

III. 
Legal Documents:

A. 
Lease, Rental Agreements, or Mortgage or Deed of Trust to house or properties .
B. Car Registration and Insurance Papers.  
C. Health and Life Insurance Papers and Policies.        
D. All Medical Records for you and your children.
E. School and Immunization Shot Records.
F. All of the Divorce(s) papers, Orders of Protection (if any), Child and or Spousal Support Orders (if any), and Court Related Papers (yours and your abusers).
G. Child or Dependent Custody Papers (if any).

IV.
Keys and other Essentials:

A. 
All Keys from your House, Car(s), Gates, Work or Office, Bags and Suitcases, Mailbox, ...
B. Medications and Vitamins for you and your children.
C. All of your and your children's or dependents Jewelry and personal items.
D. Address, Phone Number Book, Scheduler, Day-Planner.
E. Pre-Paid Phone Cards for Long-Distance Calls.


IF YOUR ARE AN IMMIGRANT OR A REFUGEE WOMAN, YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT:

"If you are being hurt by your husband, you may be eligible for a Lawful Permanent Residency status completely without his cooperation, and even against his wishes."
