"10th Anniversary Tour"
LUBE is one of the most popular rock bands in Russia. They are celebrating their 10th Anniversary of "historical rock" by touring the US to reach out to the tens of thousands of Russian immigrants in America. This "jubilee" tour features the most popular hits from each of their past 10 years. The music of LUBE sometimes makes political statements but always entertains. Their musical scope ranges from lyrical to romantic, accented with songs about real life in today’s Russia. Russian journalists conied the term "historical rock" to summarize the uniqness of LUBE. During Gorbachev’s perestroika to create a new democracy in Russia, LUBE was the first rock band to play Red Square.
"Despite the fact that their lyrics can sometimes get too sentimentally nationalistic, I do really like the way LUBE combines instruments and singing styles," writes Yale University student Oya Erez, when asked why LUBE is her favorite Russian group. "They're musically richer than many other groups around."
The Russian Federation has honored Nikolai Rastorguev, the lead singer of LUBE, with the title "Soloist--An Honored Performer of the Russian Federation", a national distinction for performing artists. His youth hides his 25 years of public singing. Rastorguev grew and evolved through several groups until he connected with the five musicians who have been LUBE for a decade.
