Loyko adapted their name from the same legendary 19th century Russian fiddler. The unbelievable colorful legends that surrounded this man's life in Russia are comparable only to the legends about Paganini in Europe. The world that Loiko created in music, was one of mystery and its great appeal, like the mystery of love or human vice, defying logic and rational explanation--it is not enough just to hear, but one must feel it as well. Continuing the legend of Loyko, these three musicians who have resurrected his name, come from musical backgrounds and strive to maintain the excellence of the legendary Loyko. Sergei Erdenko and Oleg Ponomarev founded the Loyko band in 1991. They are cousins, members of an old gypsy music clan. The great-grandfather of Sergei Mikhail Erdenko was a professor at the Moscow conservatory and a friend of Lev Tolstoy. Sergei started to play violin in his childhood. Then he got the musical education and played for a year in a symphony orchestra in Russia.  Sergei, who is also a vocalist, says that back in Russia he decided to create an extraordinary band that would be unlike any other. "It is difficult no to be an artist, when your mother is an artist and your grand father a violinist," reflects Oleg. The other player Vadim Kulitsky joined the band in 1992 in Ireland. Sergei reports that in Russia there was not enough information about gypsy music from around the world. In Ireland they could collect melodies from different countries. The gypsy trio Loyko has performed at the best music halls in Europe--the old Opera house in Frankfurt, in Munich at the Hercules music hall, in the San Gorge music hall in Brantford, in the Congress hall in Budapest, and in the best music halls of France. After they went abroad, they were able to travel and take lessons from different performers. Loyko has performed together with Rave Shancorom and Yehuda Menuhin, and with Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones.
