catontightrope.gif (3259 bytes) Nobody knows how Yury Kuklachev communicates with cats. Possibly they can read his mind. Cats around the world want to play just with him, sometimes three times a day in performances at his "cat theatre".

Kuklachev became a legend first in Russia where he is loved and acknowledged everywhere, then Europe, and is now touring America.

There is no act in the world comparable to Kuklachev’s Cat Theater. It’s difficult to describe Kuklachev to an American, perhaps a combination of Red Skeleton, Zigfield and Roy, and house cats, may be close. Due to large numbers of Russian immigrants who know him, his 30 New York performances were sell-outs.

The Los Angeles Times reported, January 17, 1998, on the unusual, sustained success, in turbulent economic times, of the Cat Theater of Moscow, whose 300-seat shows remain sold out weeks in advance. Despite conventional wisdom that cats are untrainable, proprietor Yuri Kuklachev has them climbing poles, walking tightropes, pushing toy trains, leapfrogging over human backs and balancing atop tiny platforms.

When his tour arrived in England, his cats were in quarantine for 6 months. He actually he lost his company, but Yury did not give up. With two gloves on each hand he searched city outskirts collecting lost and wild cats. Those cats, mostly black in color, were malicious, hungry and strong. They easy tore both pairs of gloves.

After the stray cats were fed and adopted, Kuklachev came into their room and talked to the cats in Russian. Nobody knows what he told them, maybe: "Guys, I have contract, I need to work, help me." And cats understood him. They did a fabulous show. He formed a new company.

The Kuklachev’s are an artistic family. His wife Lena is always near him, in at home and on the stage. Son Dima is clown too. His daughter will became a designer. The youngest Kuklachev is studying in the Bolshoi Theatre ballet school. Sister Olga always together, she is his manager. And the major part of his family are the members of his Cat Theatre.

In Moscow Cat Theater is a place where kids and adults dream to go. It is always grand occasion, where adults can retrieve their childhood and laugh to tears. The audience can follow Yury onto the stage, or dance with him in the aisle. The Moscow Cat Theater is not only a dream that came true, but a testament to his artistic and business talent.
